Officers detained in student deaths
Senior officers, a noncommissioned officer and trainers at Ali Al Sabah Military Academy in Kuwait have been detained as an investigation into the death of two student officers was launched yesterday.
First Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Shaikh Nasser Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah issued the instructions to take the detention action, Kuwait News Agency (Kuna) reported.
The detainees will be referred to the joint investigation commission tasked with looking into the circumstances of the deaths of the two student officers on Wednesday afternoon at the academy, the Directorate of Moral Guidance and Public Relations said.
According to Kuna, the detainees include the commander of Ali Al Sabah Military College, the assistant director of Educational Affairs, the Arms Wing commander at the Directorate of Educational Affairs, the Assistant Commander of the Battalion, the commander of the Student Officers and the commander of the Student Cadets from the Student Affairs Command; and four weapon trainers from the Weapons Wing, the agency said.
The investigation commission was set up by Shaikh Nasser, who cut short a trip abroad for medical treatment in order to offer condolences.
The commission — comprising high-profile representatives from the justice, defence and health ministries — also visited the injured students.
