Enduring life lessons from celebrity Dwayne Johnson
My role model is Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. Why? Because his success is built on gratitude, respect and perseverance. His NFL career came to an abrupt end due to injury, but this led him to follow his father’s career of wrestling. He succeeded in becoming a great wrestler and then went on to become a top class Hollywood actor! Of course, all this isn’t easy, but achieving all of this in one career span is absolutely astounding.
5 Things that I learnt from Dwayne Johnson (The Rock): 1 To never give up (perseverance).
Success cannot be achieved in one attempt. It is a lifelong race. When it comes to the competition, one day cannot make a big difference in terms of success or failure. The Rock has faced many problems on his way to success; family problems, recovering from injury, lost matches, but he still found his way to success, which is truly heartwarming.
2 Always work hard.
Many people understand the importance of making plans, but not many are aware what it takes to execute a plan. The Rock has proved this by his immense hard work during his journey from an NFL athlete to a pro wrestler. Planning is the route to success and work is what gets you there. You cannot achieve success by not doing this.
3 Stay stable (take firm decisions).
Decisions are key because if decisions are not well thought out, you will be uncertain about success. Uncertainty can lead to a lack of commitment and perseverance making it hard to work towards executing your decisions. If decisions are well-thought out, it is easier to execute them well. The Rock has proved this with his transformation from a wrestler to an A-list actor.
4 Resilience and humility.
When The Rock first started pro-wrestling, he was heavily hated by the crowd, but instead of retaliating, he was resilient. He appreciated them and characterised himself as the ‘People’s Champ’ by being humble and stating that his wins were for the audience and by the audience. He won the love of the crowd. I have learnt that to succeed, one must take in the criticism and channel it into appreciation.
5 Hustle.
Hustling is significant when trying to establish yourself with the crowd. It keeps pushing you out of the norm. The Rock has done this by creating rivalries with other wrestlers like Steve Austin on his way to achieving fame.
