Amarried woman and her paramour have been taken into custody for allegedly attempting to murder the woman’s husband.

The suspects have been identified as Sujatha, wife of Krishna Kumar, and her lover, Suresh Babu, a bus driver. Kumar was making a living by farming on lands taken on lease.

The duo hired a four-man hit squad to do away with Kumar by running a car over him.

The incident was reported on Monday from Thrissur. Kumar was hit by the car and thrown to the side of the road, at around 5.30am on Monday when he was on his way to Wayanad.

Clue to the case

The important clue to the case came from a suspicion of Kumar himself. When he got out of the house and started walking on the road, he noticed a parked car. As he continued walking, he observed the car taking a U-turn, and within a short time it hit him even though he was keeping to one side of the empty road.

While undergoing treatment for injuries to his legs and shoulder, Kumar consulted Sujatha about lodging a police complaint, but she discouraged him saying that it would turn troublesome. What Kumar did not know was that Sujatha and Babu had allegedly schemed to kill him.

Suspecting an affair between Sujatha and Babu, Kumar alerted the police.

The plate number of the car was obtained from early morning walkers, and further investigation led the trail to Omanakuttan, and then to his accomplices, Sharafuddin, Mohammedali and Sharath.

Omanakuttan confessed to police that his team had been offered Rs400,000 (Dh20,034) to kill Kumar, and that they had received an advance payment of Rs15,000.

He said Sujatha had alerted the gang about Kumar getting ready to leave the house when Kumar went into the bathroom for a shower.

Police suspect that Sujatha and Babu had got close to each other when Sujatha began travelling by his bus to drop her children at school on days when Kumar was away on his farm land in Wayanad.
