30 schools in Sharjah fight for Lughati Cup
Thirty schools from Sharjah are competing for the Lughati Cup at Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) under way at the Sharjah Expo Centre.
The Lughati Cup was launched by Lughati, a Sharjah government initiative that supports the ‘smart’ way of learning Arabic across Sharjah Government schools. The competition that began on Wednesday at SIBF will continue till November 10.
Badriya Al Ali, manager at Lughati, said: “The Lughati Cup is one of Lughati’s unique initiatives that encourage young children to read and learn Arabic using latest technologies. The contest this year will target third grade students with an aim to promote Arabic as a culture and behaviour in all aspects of their lives.”
The cup requires each participating school to pick a team of three students. The contest will be judged by a panel on various factors such as fluency, efficiency, pronunciation, understanding, and proper expression, through a series of questions that will test the teams’ Arabic language skills acquired in first and second grades.
The session will be held every day, from 10am to 1pm at hall No 1 at the Sharjah Expo Centre.
