Awoman was burnt to death along with her two little daughters in Bihar for not bearing a male child, the police said yesterday. The woman had been married for 20 years.

Police said the woman identified as Pushapa Devi was beaten by her in-laws at Siswar village in Kaimur district before being burnt alive on late Wednesday evening.

The accused also burnt to death her two daughters aged eight and five along with her mother, police said.

“The complainant has alleged the accused persons had been torturing the woman for not giving birth to a male child. We have registered the case but all the accused are absconding. We are conducting raids to nab them,” a local police official Rajiv Ranjan told the media yesterday. The complaint was filed by victim’s kin.

The victim who hailed from Robertganj locality in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh was married to Manoj Soni 20 years ago. The family wanted a son but the woman had given birth to two daughters, leading to tension in the family.

This is the second such incident in Bihar in the past five months. Earlier in May, a woman had poisoned to death her three daughters aged between three and eight before ending her own life.
