What’s at stake in elections?
All 435 seats in the House Of Representatives are up for reelection. There are now 236 Republicans, 193 Democrats and six vacancies. Democrats need a net gain of 23 seats to take control of the House. Likely outcome: Democrats take control.
The Senate consists of 100 members. It is made up of 51 Republicans and 49 Democrats. Of the 35 seats up for grabs, 26 are held by Democrats. Likely outcome: Republicans hold on to the Senate.
Should Democrats win control of the House they could derail Trump’s legislative agenda. More importantly, they would also win subpoena power to investigate Trump’s many missteps.
Governor races: Thirty-six of the 50 states elect governors this year, including about 10 considered toss-ups. Republicans currently control 29 governorships to 21 for the Democrats.
