A nurse from Dubai Health Authority (DHA) came first in the sixth edition of Shaikha Hind’s Sports Tournament for Ladies in the badminton category, while another DHA contestant came in third in the chess category.

Commenting on her win, an overjoyed Jeanielle Cabulong, a Filipina expatriate said: “I moved to Dubai from the Philippines four months ago and I turned to badminton as a way to cope with my homesickness. I did not expect to win because I competed against a four-time championship winner. I also sprained my ankle while playing, but I was able to persevere and win,” said Cabulong.

The Shaikha Hind Women’s Sports Tournament is focused on motivating women employees from government and nongovernment bodies to exercise and make physical activity a part of their lifestyle. This year 36 employees from the DHA participated in the tournament.

“The DHA and the council share the same goal of promoting a healthy and active lifestyle among the Dubai community and among women,” said Hamza Abbas, Director of the Sports Committee and Social Programmes at the Authority.
