Al Jazira go second with win over Wasl

Nose ahead of Al Ain in standings on goal-difference

Al Jazira beat Al Wasl 2-0 in a late game on Monday to go second in the Arabian Gulf League, two points behind leaders Sharjah. The Abu Dhabi club are now level on points with Al Ain but the two are separated for second and third on goal difference.

Second half goals from Khalfan Mubarak and Ali Mabkhout on 49th and 63rd minutes ensured the win for Al Jazira. It followed Sharjah being held 2-2 at home to Kalba and Al Ain beating Bani Yas 2-0 at home on Sunday.

Elsewhere on Monday, Shabab Ahli went fourth with a 2-1 win at home to Emirates, courtesy of Mohammad Marzouq and Jaime Ayovi getting goals either half of Cheick Diabate’s penalty equaliser just before the interval.
