Dulquer Salman in awe of Mani Ratnam

Actor Dulquer Salman worked under Mani Ratnam’s direction in 2015’s O Kadhal Kanmani, but says his relationship with the acclaimed director goes back a long way.

The son of Malayalam superstar Mammootty used to hang out on the set of the acclaimed director’s 1991 film Thalapathi.

Asked how it was to have Ratnam direct his father and work with that same director as a leading man, Salman said: “It was amazing. My dad and Mani Ratnam sir have met several times even after Thalapathi and discussed several films.”

When Salman finally sat to work with the director, he was intimidated by him.

“Getting Mani sir’s film for an actor is like getting into Harvard or something... Getting cast or getting a call is like some kind of accomplishment,” said Salman. —
