Nut job: Visitor caught carrying 12kg of hashish

A visitor has been accused of smuggling 12kg of hashish, which he claims he thought was mixed nuts, a court heard yesterday.

A customs inspector asked the Iranian visitor, 25, when he arrived at Rashid Port in July, to put his luggage on the scanner. The device showed a thick base and 12 pieces of hashish were found stacked in the bottom.

The suspect pleaded not guilty at the Dubai Court of First Instance. The court will reconvene for the case on November 28. (Staff Report)
