Italy is working to help relocate the family of the Pakistani Christian woman who was acquitted after being sentenced to death for blasphemy in Pakistan.

The Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday it was coordinating with other countries to ensure the safety of Asia Bibi and her family.

The ministry says it is ready to act on whatever the Italian government might decide — an indication that asylum might be in the offing.

Separately, a lawmaker from German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s conservative party called for Germany to grant Bibi refuge.
