Bizarre as it may seem, lightning did indeed strike twice at Meydan Racecourse when the new Phoenix Ladies Syndicate landed their second winner in as many weeks, courtesy a smart-looking two-yearold named Superiority.

Trained by Ahmad Bin Harmash, and ridden seemingly with an air of authority by Connor Beasely, the son of Majestic Perfection looked particularly impressive when stretching out to win the Longines Ladies Master Collection (Maiden).

The winner broke well and tailed the leader, Lahmoom, the mount of Xavier Ziani, for the first half of the mile, before ■ settled on the outside of Martial Art, ridden by Pat Dobbs.

Like his name suggested, Superior looked the better of the two horses who broke away from the rest of the field, on the day as he grabbed the lead in the final half furlong to run on gamely for a half-length victory.

Bin Harmash and Beasely were reprising their win a similar success that their achieved on the opening day of the season at Meydan when Walking Thunder won the day’s Its contest.

Phoenix Ladies Syndicate is a division of Phoenix Thoroughbreds, which was formed in October and whose aim is to broaden and increase the participation of women in the racing industry across the UA

“We’re so happy,” said a delighted Teresa Star, who is the legal consultant with the racing partnership.

“At the moment, we have 11 horses, and all members of the syndicate will be in involved in all horses.

“It’s still early days but we want to change the way it works for ladies in racing over here.”

Starr also revealed that the syndicate was open to more membership and encouraged more participation.

“Join us, we’re on a winning spree,” she called out at Meydan. “Come get involved it’s a lot of fun owning race horses.” twoyear-old
