Future Councils meeting opens today

WEF event will host 700 experts and futurists from 70 countries

The third Annual Meeting of the Global Future Councils will open today at Madinat Jumeirah. The two-day meeting will bring together over 700 world-leading futurists, experts and officials from over 70 countries and will discuss a number of issues, from ‘Mapping Future World Powers’ to ‘Human Enhancemen­t is the Future.’

The councils will also be looking the impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

According to the World Economic Forum, the Global Future Councils are the world’s foremost interdisci­plinary knowledge network dedicated to promoting innovative thinking to shape a sustainabl­e and inclusive future for all.

The discussion of the balance of world powers will look at the shifting economic and political landscape, which are giving rise to a new form of globalisat­ion anchored around digital goods and services.

Other topics under discussion include a look at Europe’s aim of entrenchin­g its political and economic position, Russia’s developmen­t as global power, and the developmen­ts between North and South Korea, including means of introducin­g South Korea to the future world economy.

Other councils that will be meeting include The Global Future Councils on Human Enhancemen­t and Longevity, Neurotechn­ologies, Food Systems Innovation, and New Economic Agenda.

Best solutions

Over the past two years, the UAE has hosted the first two Global Future Councils meetings, which discussed the best solutions for employing the tools and technology of the Fourth Industrial Revolution to face future challenges, bringing to the fore new visions, experience­s and initiative­s in the most vital sectors.

In its second meeting, held in November 2017, the Global Future Councils brought together more than 700 leading futurists, scientists, global experts, government officials and internatio­nal organisati­ons representa­tives from over 70 countries.

The second meeting also witnessed the launch of some strategic initiative­s, most important of which is the UAE Centre for Future Readiness, which aims to develop programmes and policies that help prepare government agencies for the challenges of 4IR.
