Dubai aspirant proposes salaries for housewives

- BY JANICE PONCE DE LEON Staff Reporter

From addressing issues on ‘commercialising health care’ and proposing to give salaries to housewives, these are but a few of the plans and priorities of several Emiratis who registered their names in Dubai yesterday to become part of the Federal National Council (FNC).

Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs Undersecretary Tariq Hilal Lootah said registration began smoothly.

“The centres at Dubai World Trade Centre opened at 8am but people came even earlier. As far as I’ve seen, it’s been very smooth, except for some candidates who did not bring the required documents,” Lootah told Gulf News.

Shaikha Khalfan was the first female Emirati to register in Dubai. The 30-year-old Business Planning and Development Specialist said she would focus on three main aspects in case she wins a seat at the FNC.

“There are some issues that need to be fixed in education, health care and employee satisfaction,” Khalfan, who works in the aviation industry, said.

“For education, I’d like to focus

more on a model where we can determine and develop students’ talents. There is a need to make sure that we don’t have hospitals that commercialise health care,” she added. Khalfan also aims to push for the inclusion of insurance coverage of legitimate health problems.

Ahmad Alzarooni, 34, legal consultant and also a poet, said he will continue pushing for his advocacy to honour housewives and mothers for their sacrifices if elected. “Over the last three years, I have been proposing that mothers and housewives receive salaries from the government. There are many mothers and wives who opt to work. But there are those who choose to stay at home and this impacts the family’s finances,” Alzarooni said.

Al Hartith Bin Salem Al Moosa aims to be the voice of the youth. At 37, he said he has been following the FNC very closely. “Now we’re at a pivotal point where there is a complete change in people’s mentality. Being connected to the older generation and representing the young generation, I am the link between the old and the new generation to give these new ideas so we can move faster in reaching our 2021 goal,” Al Moosa said.
