ADubai resident stranded in Pakistan has been reunited with her twoand half-year-old son in the UAE, thanks to the efforts of Dubai Police.

Pakistani expat Sana Kaleem Khan was stranded in her hometown Karachi since April 20 after travelling there for a medical emergency. Her son Abdullah stayed back in Dubai with his father Kaleem.

After her application for an entry permit was rejected, she contacted Gulf News, which published her story on May 31. The story quoted Kaleem as saying that Abdullah “weeps inconsolably every time he speaks to Sana”. Lt Gen Abdullah Khalifa Al Merri, Dubai Police Chief, saw the story and decided to help the mother.

“I was so desperate till I received a call from a Dubai Police official who told me that the police chief has decided to help me return to Dubai,” Sana said.

Sana’s entry permit was approved and she returned to Dubai on an Emirates flight on June 6. “We were only two passengers. A Dubai Police team welcomed me at the airport and took me to a hotel for the 14-day quarantine. I’m counting down the days to seeing my son again,” Sana said.

Sana thanked Al Merri and Awatif Al Suwaidi, head of happiness and positivity council at Dubai Police, who coordinated with her during the process.

Al Suwaidi told Gulf News that Sana’s sister-in-law contacted Dubai Police too asking for help before Al Merri noticed her story in Gulf News. “We coordinated with the concerned authority to get her entry permit approved,” she said.
