UAE maintains position as leading market for nation’s products
India’s exports of electronic goods and components grew 34 per cent during 2019-20, compared to the same period a year earlier, a new report shows.
Overall, exports of electronic goods and components during 2019-20 are estimated at $11.28 billion up from $8.43 billion in 2018-19, according to a report compiled by India’s Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC).
Exports of electronic goods to the Middle East Region during 2019-20 are estimated at $3.07 billion, or 27.26 per cent of India’s total electronics exports. Exports of electronic goods to the UAE increased to $2.44 billion in 2019-20 — from an estimated $1.44 billion in 2018-19 — a growth of 69 per cent.
Telecoms equipment, mainly mobile phones, comprised the largest item of export to the UAE.
“The Government attached high priority to electronics hardware manufacturing and it is one of the important pillars of both ‘Make in India’ and ‘Digital India’ programmes,” said Kamal Vachani, who heads the regional operations of the ESC.
