Oman lifts 2-week lockdown
EASING ADVANCED TO FACILITATE MOVEMENT IN WAKE OF TROPICAL STORM
Oman yesterday lifted lifting a two-week lockdown between its governorates a day ahead of schedule in light of the tropical storm building up in the Arabian Sea, Omani news agency ONA reported.
The lifting of the lockdown, in force since July 25, does not include Dhofar governorate.
Night curfew across the country will be reduced from 9pm to 5am starting today until August 15. It used to be enforced between 7pm and 6am.
Oman yesterday confirmed 354 new cases, 10 more deaths and 1,353 recoveries. to reach 72,263, the ministry added.
Oman is set to lift a twoweek total lockdown between its governorates as of Friday afternoon. A nighttime curfew in place to contain the spread of COVID-19 will be shortened as of Saturday.
Saudi patient infects 13
Meanwhile, a patient in Saudi Arabia infected 13 people after attending a family gathering. The patient who showed some symptoms failed to get tested and attended a family gathering where social distancing measures were flouted.
One of the infected people, who was in direct contact with the patient, did not isolate himself, infecting eight others.
This is not the first such instance in Saudi Arabia. In June, three families contracted the coronavirus from an infected woman during a gathering.
Bahrain teen infect seven
A Bahraini teenager infected seven people from three families, Akhbar Al Khaleej newspaper reported yesterday.
The 15-year-old boy transmitted the virus to five others, including his mother, daughter and fraternal aunts. Two more were infected through one of his aunts, according to the report. It was not clear how the boy had caught the virus.
Bahrain, which has 42,889 cases, yesterday reported two more deaths, taking total fatalities to 158.
Kuwait to review entry ban
Kuwait’s ongoing ban on travellers from 31 high-risk countries will be regularly reviewed every 10 days, Al Qabas newspaper quoted government sources as saying.
Kuwait reported 682 new cases and two more deaths along with 720 recoveries. Last week, Kuwait reduced night curfew to six hours while hotels and resorts reopened. Fifty per cent of government and private sector employees returned to work.
