Dubai unveils school model of value-based education

ubai Schools, a project that creates a new Emirati schooling system featuring a high standard of education rooted in national values was launched yesterday

It aims to prepare young Emiratis for the requiremen­ts of the future job market while deepening their Emirati, Arab and Muslim identity.

Launching the project at a meeting of the Dubai Executive Council, Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, said: “The new initiative, which integrates a global curriculum, will develop the educationa­l and life skills of students with a focus on Emirati values and the Arabic language.”

The first phase of Dubai Schools will see two schools launches in Mirdif and Al Barsha, will commence in the 2021-22 academic year. The two schools, which have an enrolment capacity of 800 students from pre-school to Grade 4 and follows an American curriculum, will open on August 29.

100% scholarshi­ps

Emirati students will have priority for admission in Dubai Schools and can avail of scholarshi­ps of up to 100 per cent.

Shaikh Hamdan attended the signing of an agreement between Dubai Government and Taaleem to operate Dubai Schools. He also approved the formation of the Supervisor­y Steering Committee of Dubai Schools.

The agreement was signed by Abdullah Al Basti, secretary-general of Dubai Executive Council and Chairman of the Supervisor­y Steering Committee of Dubai Schools and Khalid Al Tayer, chairman of the Board of Taaleem.

“Amidst the rapid changes we are seeing in the world, we have a responsibi­lity to equip our students with new skills and knowledge that will help them pursue excellence and success in the future,” Shaikh Hamdan said. “The initiative represents a new phase in our long-term education plan created to support the sustainabi­lity of our developmen­t journey.”
