Residents have started learning Hebrew through the new Educational Hebrew Institute (EHI) in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

EHI director Josh Samet said the institutes’ courses are licensed by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA). A certificate will be provided to each participant upon completion of the course.

There are three levels of courses ranging from beginner to advanced. EHI also offers online courses. The courses are taught live in a virtual classroom on Zoom, where learners are able to see and talk to the teacher, write on a board, go over exercises and get corrected where necessary.

Students at Abu Dhabi University have developed a smart shopping cart to make shopping an easier, quicker and more pleasant experience for People of Determination.

The D1Cart system, developed with the support of the university’s Office of Research and Sponsored Programmes and the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, features a robotic arm and a lifting mechanism, both controlled by a joystick. These help users effortlessly reach items on high shelves.

The control system can be adjusted for speed, sensitivity and reliability. D1Cart is also supported by an automated scanning system that will allow users to skip queues at the cashier.

D1Cart was designed by Abdullah Said Gad, Abdullah Eslam Rashed, Saeed Darwish Al Hhemeiri, and Gasm Elbary Mohammad — all students of electrical and computer engineering. They were supported by Dr Mohammad Ghazal, professor, and chair of the university’s Electrical and Computer Engineering department and Dr Mohammad Al Hheder, chair and associate professor of Mechanical Engineering.
