MODI CHAIRS MEETING TO ASSESS COVID SITUATION

Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting yesterday to assess the Covid-19 situation in the country, preparedne­ss of health infrastruc­ture and emergence of variants and their public health implicatio­ns and cautioned against complacenc­y.

Advising strict vigil, he said Covid is not over yet and directed officials to strengthen the ongoing surveillan­ce measures, especially at the internatio­nal airports.

“PM cautioned against complacenc­y and advised strict vigil…,” PMO said.

Beware of fake news

Amid the sudden Covid scare that has erupted across many countries, a WhatsApp message has been making its rounds claiming that the XBB subvariant of Omicron is five times more virulent and has a higher mortality rate than the Delta variant.

However, the Union health ministry has rejected the claim and has termed the message fake. “This message circulatin­g in many WhatsApp groups regarding XXB variant of Covid 19 is fake and Misleading”, said the health ministry.

The viral message claims that “the new variant of the Covid-Omicron XBB coronaviru­s is different, deadly and not easy to detect correctly. The symptoms of the new virus Covid -Omicron XBB are — there is no cough and there is no fever.”

Taj on covid alert

With the surge in Covid cases in China and other countries, Taj Mahal in Agra is put on alert, confirmed the District Health Informatio­n Officer in Agra.

Keeping the situation in mind, Domestic and foreign tourists will have to undergo a Covid test before their visit as per the official sources.
