UAE set to invest $30 billion across strategic sectors in South Korea
SEVERAL DEALS SIGNED AS MOHAMMAD, YOON SUK YEOL DISCUSS WAYS TO BOOST COOPERATION
The UAE yesterday announced a commitment to invest $30 billion in strategic sectors in the Republic of South Korea as the two countries signed a number of agreements and Memorandums of Understanding that aim to develop prospects for cooperation in various fields as part of the strategic relations between the two nations.
President His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol attended the exchange of agreements and memorandums concluded by the two countries. This comes as part of the state visit of President Yoon who met Shaikh Mohammad yesterday at Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi.
The agreements and MoUs announced included an MoU in hydrogen energy use in cities, its production, transmission and storage which was concluded between the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and the Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
A joint declaration was also made by the two governments regarding enhancing cooperation in energy through a strategic energy partnership.
Other sectors and areas across which the two sides exchanged agreements and MoUs included space, nuclear energy, mobility and transportation, water, defence industry, oil, carbon markets, and sovereign investment partnership.
Big boost to ties
Earlier Shaikh Mohammad reviewed with Yoon Suk Yeol opportunities to develop joint cooperation in various fields within the framework of the special strategic relations that unite the two countries.
This came during the reception of the Korean President at Qasr Al Watan. Shaikh Mohammad expressed his aspiration that President Yoon’s visit would constitute a formidable addition to the strategic UAE-Korea relations.
The two sides discussed various paths of cooperation and development in the investment, economic, scientific, cultural and advanced technology fields, in addition to renewable energy and other vital areas of interest within their two countries’ future plans. They also exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues of mutual concern.
Later, President Yoon, accompanied by First Lady Kim Keon Hee, visited the Shaikh Zayed Grand Mosque.
They also paid a visit to Abu Dhabi’s national and cultural landmark, Wahat Al Karama, that commemorates the sacrifices and heroic deeds of the UAE martyrs to defend their homeland and protect it.
President Yoon attended the Guard of Honour ceremony, and then laid a wreath at the Martyrs’ Monument.
My visit carries a special meaning, in particular because it will be the first state visit since the UAE and the Republic of Korea established diplomatic relations in 1980.”

resident His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan yesterday received South Korea’s President Yoon Suk Yeol, who is on his first state visit to the UAE.
Upon his arrival at Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi, President Yoon, accompanied by First Lady Kim Keon-hee, was accorded an official reception.
The ceremony included the performance of the Korean national anthem, followed by the firing of 21 artillery rounds and a guard of honour. Prior to the arrival of the Korean President’s convoy to the palace square, the Fursan Al Emarat aerobatics team flew over the palace sky, forming the Korean flag.

Visit to Wahat Al Karama
President Yoon later visited Abu Dhabi’s landmark, Wahat Al Karama, that commemorates the sacrifices and heroic deeds of UAE’s martyrs to protect their homeland.The Korean President and his delegation were welcomed by Shaikh Khalifa Bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Executive Director of the Martyrs’ Families’ Affairs Office.
Yoon attended the Guard of Honour ceremony and laid a wreath at the Martyrs’ Monument. During his tour, he listened to a detailed explanation by Shaikh Khalifa Bin Tahnoun about the different sections in Wahat Al Karama. The tour ended with a word written by the President of Korea, expressing his utmost respect and appreciation for the brave martyrs
Zayed Grand Mosque visit
President Yoon, accompanied by First Lady Kim Keon Hee, also visited the Shaikh Zayed Grand Mosque. He began the tour with a visit to the final resting place of Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
Later, Dr Yousuf Al Obaidli, Director-General of Shaikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre gave them a tour of the mosque’s halls and corridors.
President Yoon was presented with two of the Centre’s publications — Spaces of Light, showcases winning photographs in the Spaces of Light photography award, and the second was a book titled Houses of God about places of worship in the Islamic history.
