RAK weight loss challenge offers Dh50,000 prize purse

Dh300, Dh200 and Dh100 for every kg lost to first, second and third positions

The third edition of RAK Biggest Weight Loss Challenge is offering Dh50,000 worth of cash prizes to the top winners.

The eight-week challenge which saw over 10,000 people participat­e last year, starts on January 20 and ends on March 22 with the awards ceremony.

The competitio­n held to battle obesity is organised by RAK Hospital in associatio­n with RAK’s Ministry of Health and Prevention.

The competitio­n is divided into three categories: Physical, virtual, and corporate. The number of cash prizes has been increased allowing more contestant­s a chance to win.

There will be three male and three female winners in both physical and virtual categories and one corporate team vying for the ‘Champions Trophy’.

This time, second and third place winners too get to win cash. Dh300, Dh200 and Dh100 will be given respective­ly for every kg lost to the top three winners. The top three male and female winners in the virtual category also stand to win prizes ranging from staycation­s, health and holiday packages, dining vouchers and gym membership­s.

There are also prizes even for the people losing the highest percentage of weight.

Dr Raza Siddiqui, executive director, RAK Hospital, said: “The Challenge aims to improve quality of life by reducing obesity. We want people to understand that obesity can be prevented and reversed by exercise and diet control and this challenge aims to encourage people to become healthier.”

The challenge is designed to support participan­ts with informatio­n for better management of weight which will be done via weekly webinars as part of the competitio­n.
