Woman found dead near TN tiger reserve

A 50-year-old woman was found dead yesterday near the Madumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR) in Tamil Nadu.

According to her family and relatives, Maaru had ventured into the forest area in Theppekadu on Tuesday evening for collecting firewood.

When she did not return till late at night, the forest department was informed following which a search operation was launched.

Yesterday morning, the department officials found her body 200 metres from the Thepekadu elephant campwith injury marks likely from a tiger attack.

Elderly woman killed in cloth unit blaze

A 62-year-old woman was killed in a massive fire that engulfed several small garment manufactur­ing units in Dharavi, Mumbai, yesterday, the BMC Disaster Control said.

The blaze was noticed around 1pm yesterday in four-five cloth producing units and spread quickly to two buildings of two floors standing adjacent to each other, sparking panic in the thickly congested locality.

The woman was trapped in the ground floor bathroom of one of the units and was rushed to the Sion Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The victim has been identified as Usha Londhe.

Delhi roads to get a makeover for G20

Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia has approved a project worth Rs175 million for the decoration and strengthen­ing of Mathura Road, Bhairon Marg and Ring Road around ITPO Complex. The project is also part of preparatio­ns for the G-20 convention­s to be held in the state this year.

Under this project, the beautifica­tion and strengthen­ing of 5.8km road from W-Point to Delhi Public School on Mathura Road, from IP flyover to Bhairon Marg T-Point on Bhairon Marg and Ring Road will be done. The project includes resurfacin­g these roads, decorating of footpath and central verge and improvemen­t of the existing drainage system, an official said.

ASI in police remand over Naba Das’ death

Assistant sub-inspector Gopal Das, who confessed that he shot at Odisha Health Minister Naba Das, has been brought in police remand for a period of 4 days, officials said yesterday.

The ASI’s Interrogat­ion is being carried out by the Crime Branch of the Crime Investigat­ion Department.

Naba Das had been the Health and Family Welfare Minister of Odisha since 2019. He was shot at in Brajarajna­gar in the Jharsuguda district and succumbed to his bullet injuries in Bhubaneswa­r hospital on Sunday. It was found that a single bullet had entered and exited the body.
