Sweat-free solution
WITH KAYA SKIN CLINIC’S NEW TREATMENT, RELIEF IS IN SIGHT FOR THOSE SUFFERING FROM EXTREME UNDERARM SWEATING
If you happen to suffer from excessive underarm sweating, keep reading on. In a region like ours where sunshine hits us hard all year round, the clammy feeling of sweat and odour can be highly obtrusive in our daily lives. Going through the drill of spritzing yourself with a range of deodorants and antiperspirants, changing clothing fabrics to cotton and making other lifestyle changes in the hope of finding relief, will soon be a thing of the past with Kaya’s new offering — Kaya Sweatfree treatment powered by miradry® technology.
We spoke with Dr Amani Said, Dermatologist at Kaya Skin Clinic, to get under the mechanisms of this treatment and know why it is the definitive answer to excessive underarm sweating.
So what exactly is Kaya Sweat-free? How does it work?
Kaya Sweat-free is a safe and clinically
proven procedure using the world-renowned miradry® technology.
It is the only US FDA approved technology for reduction of sweat and odour, and it’s a noninvasive procedure. Using a specially designed hand-piece, the system delivers electromagnetic energy to the skin under the arms. The individually calibrated energy is targeted to the area where the sweat glands are located and eliminates them. This stops odour and hair growth in the area too. And since sweat glands do not grow back, the procedure gives a permanent 80 per cent reduction in sweating and most commonly results are seen from the very first session.
Who needs this treatment?
This service can be used by those who are tired of the sticky feeling associated with sweat, rid themselves of odour, those looking to reduce the use of toxic deodorants and antiperspirants. It is not only for people uncomfortable with sweating, but also aims at improving everyone’s lifestyle by ridding them from this pain point.
How is this different from Botox?
The difference between Botox and miradry® is that Botox blocks sweat glands temporarily for three to six months. This means you need periodic treatment. In the case of Kaya Sweat-free using miradry, the technology eliminates the glands once and for all. The sweat glands wither with the heat from the microwave energy and do not grow back. Both solutions are available and provided at Kaya conforming to the highest standards of safety and efficacy. The client and the dermatologist can both discuss the options available to get the best results depending on the client’s need and preference.
Isn’t it true that we need to sweat to get rid of toxins in our bodies? And will my body temperature increase if I stop sweating from my underarms?
These are actually common misconceptions. The way the body works is that toxins are eliminated through our liver and kidneys and not though sweat. We have about two million sweat glands all over the body where only 2 per cent of them are located in the underarms, which have no effect whatsoever on the way the body functions neither does it impact its temperature. Although miradry treatment leaves your underarms satisfactorily dry, the rest of your sweat glands continue to do their job.
Is the miradry procedure painful?
The area is numbed with a local anaesthetic, and the procedure is noninvasive — which means no cuts or incisions are made. Besides, the hand piece cools the skin while sending heat energy deep into the dermis. This ensures that there is no heat-induced pain during or after the session. After the anaesthetic has worn off, you may feel a bit of discomfort, or a slightly altered sensation for a few days.
Are there any side effects?
There are negligible side effects. Some clients might experience minimal discomfort or swelling but these disappear after a few weeks. Your dermatologist at Kaya will make sure you’re fully clear on instructions for post-treatment care.
Can it cause breast cancer?
Kaya Sweat-free with miradry® uses microwaves which are totally safe and not radiation which would call for extreme caution as is exercised in advanced diagnostics. Beside the fact that microwaves are not carcinogenic, the amount and intensity is too low to cause any form of damage. The US FDA certification has been earned after extensive proof that mirawave™ energy is safe. It has also been used in over 55,000 treatments worldwide with an excellent safety record.
