When it comes to movies, viewer’s opinions are usually very divided. Often times you can find that a film with really good reviews also has extremely negative ones. This week we are taking a look at the top ten most divisive films, based on data gathered from reviews by critics.

Topping the list is director Lars von Trier’s Melancholia.

The movie is the second entry of the trio of films unofficially called the Depression Trilogy. Starring Kristen Dunst,

Charlotte Gainsbourg and Alexander Skarsgard, the film centres around two sisters, their strained relationship and a new planet threatening to hit earth. Sounds strange doesn’t it? Many people thought so, but many people loved it too with some describing it as a “masterpiece.”

In second place on the list is crime thriller The Counseler by director Ridley Scott. Featuring Penelope Cruz, Cameron Diaz and Javier Bardem, the movie tackles issues of greed, mortality, love and trust in a corrupted world of crime. When the movie came out back in 2013, one critic went as far as calling it the “second worst film of the year.” On the other hand, another described it as one of Scott’s best works.

What kind of a list would this be without a Leonardo Dicaprio movie on it? Coming in at number five is the

2010 sci-fi hit Inception by Christopher Nolan. Dicaprio plays a professional thief who steals information from people by entering their subconscious mind. Another weird plot, but audiences were captivated.
