It’s all systems go at id HQ as we prepare for the first identity Design Awards.

Our jury of top global designers – including Marco Piva, David Rockwell, Richard Hutten and Seyhan Özdemir – are expected to give us their feedback very soon.

Our trophies are being hand-made in Europe; the prizes are wrapped; the menu has been fine-tuned; and voting for the Readers’ Choice: Favourite Interiors Store continues to gain momentum.

The stage is set and we look forward to celebratin­g the winning designs with you on 25 October.

Meanwhile, award-winning British architect Alex Michaelis was in Dubai recently, along with Tom Aikens, the two Michelin-starred British chef who’s making the final touches to the interior of the first Pots, Pan & Boards restaurant.

The Michaelis Boyd studio designed the Soho Houses in Berlin and LA and the Soho Farmhouse in the UK, has created an interior with a difference here at the trendy venue in The Beach developmen­t. The relaxed and informal interior reflects the casual and informal style of the restaurant – where all the food created by Aikens and the team, lead by head chef Ibraheem Musleh, will be served on either a pot, a pan or a board!

Rue Kothari, Fair Director of Downtown Design, and Cyril Zammit, Fair Director of Dubai Design Week, will be launching the first Dubai Design Week on 26 October and are putting the finishing touches to their inspiring design projects. Top names from the world of design are jetting in for the event, which kicks off just after the id Design Awards gala and is certain to secure Dubai’s reputation as an internatio­nal design destinatio­n. From 26 to 31 October Dubai is to be a global hub of design, ideas and celebratio­n.

Explore new products from all over the world, at the ever-growing Downtown Design trade fair, going from strength to strength every year…

Cityscape brought with it a bevy of visiting designers, including Adrian Smith and Gordon Gill, who revealed the designs for their latest mammoth project: the 700-metre-high Burj 2020 tower in Jumeirah Lakes Towers…

Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah is to get a new beach, park and promenade and, of course, retail spaces, spread out along the trunk of the island. The mile-long Promenade was part of the initial plans for the man-made island and will link the 30-odd towers in the vicinity to give a community feel to the island.

Leading British architectu­ral studio Assael is setting up a studio in Dubai. The company has already worked on a number of major Dubai projects including Dubai Park and Za’beel Park. Led by co-founders John Assael and Russell Pedley, the company also designed the popular Flame Fountain and Flame Park master plan in Baku.

Congratula­tions to Enrico Fantin, who was recently awarded the prestigiou­s Cavaliere dell’Ordine della Stella d’Italia from Italian Ambassador to the UAE Giorgio Starace on behalf of the Italian government for his contributi­on to Italian design internatio­nally.

Fantini Mosaici was responsibl­e for the marble works at the iconic Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi, and the company recently completed the installati­on of work at the Prada Foundation and the renovation of the famous Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II – both in Milan – as well as the new-look Hermès floors world-wide. Here in Dubai they are putting the finishing touches to the soon-to-open Palazzo Versace Hotel and Condominiu­ms…
