LEGACY PLANS
Legacy plans for Dubai Expo 2020 have been announced, with more than 80% of the 4.38-square kilometre site due to be repurposed or reused after the event.
The theme districts, which will play host to most of the country pavilions that become a focal point of every Expo, will become collaborative work spaces for a range of companies, as well as cultural and social institutions.
The iconic theme pavilions of the event, which takes place from 20 October 2020 to 10 April 2021, are also set to be reused under legacy plans.
And the Expo’s purpose-built conference and exhibition centre will subsequently become a major event venue in the emirate, to be operated by Dubai World Trade Centre.
Fully integrated residential communities and retail facilities will also become key features on the Expo site, which is located within the Dubai South District, adjacent to Al Maktoum International Airport.
Marjan Faraidooni, Expo 2020’s VP of Legacy, said: “Our legacy plans are wide-ranging and ambitious. Our Expo will continue to foster innovation, and to create meaningful partnerships that will live beyond 2020 – not only for the UAE but for the region as a whole.”
