THE LIVING KITCHEN
While open-plan kitchen-living spaces are nothing new, there is plenty of innovation aimed at bringing the two rooms even closer together. For the first time, kitchen manufacturer Comprex has enriched its collection with furniture for the living area, making it even easier for its customers to create a cohesive open-plan design.
Meanwhile, German manufacturer Poggenpohl has concentrated its efforts on developing +STAGE, a flexible, freestanding unit that can be customised to suit personal preferences and interests. Suitable for all areas of the home, +STAGE facilitates a smooth transition between the kitchen and living space, such as when integrated into a line of tall units.
For many manufacturers, however, bringing the two spaces closer together translates to borrowing details from the living room to soften the aesthetic of the kitchen. TM Italia’s Miuccia kitchen, for example, perches on sled-style legs in rose copper, which not only lend a sense of lightness to the design, but also recalls the typical characteristics of living room furniture. It is not alone. Makio Hasuike & Co was of similar thinking when designing its Sipario kitchen for Aran Cucine.
