07 MONTREAL MUSEUM’S FACELIFT
Musée d’art de Joliette, an important regional art museum in Quebec, has undergone a transformation and expansion. Les architectes FABG provided a new flexible gallery space, animation rooms for young visitors, a multipurpose café, conference rooms and a rooftop terrace, which have opened up the institution to the community. The concrete structure of the original building was stripped of its brick and plaster cover and cleaned, and part of the second floor concrete slab was demolished to create a dramatic double-height space. The museum’s permanent collection currently comprises some 8500 works covering Canadian art, European art, contemporary art and archaeology.
