TIMBER TOWN
The Swedish city of Örebro is to become home to a ‘ timber town’.
C. F. Møller Architects and C. F. Møller Landscape, in cooperation with Slättö Förvaltning, won a competition to design a new residential quarter that will also become a destination, integrating nature into the urban landscape.
Several apartment buildings of various heights are planned, all of which will feature solid wood frame structures.
Timber is prized because of its renewable nature, low energy consumption and its limited carbon footprint.
Project architect Ola Jonsson said: “For us, it is obvious to choose solid wood for structures as well as façades of wood. In addition to contributing positively to the environment, wood gives us new opportunities to create innovative and value-creating architecture.“
