05 RENNES ON TO A WINNER

MVRDV has won an international competition to design a new 8200-square metre residential development in this north-western French city. It will become home to 135 private residences, a third of which will be social housing. All apartments will have outdoor spaces with balconies facing the waterfront, loggias and terraces. Trees and greenery from the public square connect upwards to the green rooftops, while the building’s distinct curved façades slope from river level to the roofs to allow views of the city. Construction work is due to begin in early 2018 and be completed in 2020.
