08 NEW YORK NEW LOOK
The New York Public Library is to undergo a Dhs734 million interior renovation next year. The building was originally completed in 1914 as a department store before reopening as a library in the early 1970s. Key elements of the Mecanoo project include increasing public space by 35 per cent by moving back-office staff to an adjacent facility and utilising the roof to create an additional floor. A dedicated business library occupying an entire floor is to be created, along with an adult learning centre and dedicated spaces for children and teens, plus two floors of meeting rooms.
