04 HJORRING, DENMARK NEW STAGE
Denmark has its first newly built theatre outside of the capital Copenhagen in more than a century. The 4200-square metre Vendsyssel Theatre in the city of Hjørring has been designed by Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects as a dynamic and multifunctional complex that includes a music hall, rehearsal hall and 430-seat hall that can also act as a theatre. The building also houses offices and a spacious lobby, along with a café plus backstage area complete with workshops and dressing rooms. The LED-backed frosted glass façades of the building are illuminated in different colours during the evening.
