02 NEW YORK CITY HIGH NOTE

181 Mercer Street is a new multi-use building at New York University that will accommodate much-needed new classrooms, performing arts education and training spaces, a modern athletic facility, student and faculty housing, plus around 700 square metres of space for a public atrium. Also planned is a 350-seat theatre, along with the university’s first orchestral ensemble room. Sustainable elements of the design include: a transparent façade that reduces energy requirements through natural light; low-flow plumbing; green roofs; and outdoor terraces with low-irrigation plants to help naturally cool the building, along with the use of state-of-the-art building management systems.
