06 SHENZHEN SPORTING BRIEF

MVRDV’s Xili Sports and Cultural Centre aims to help improve the quality of life in the fastest developing urban region in China. The 105,000-square metre project features a 20,000-square metre theatre-amphitheatre, a basketball-badminton arena, a multi-functional area suitable for sports such as table tennis, football and volleyball, plus a swimming pool and a signature elevated running track which weaves in and out of the four volumes. The centre, designed in collaboration with Zhubo Architecture Design, is located in a residential area along the Dasha Green Corridor, which stretches between the Nanshan and Yangtai mountain parks.
