Hacker Kitchens designer Rohit Patel reveals 2018’s key kitchen trends:

This year, the company is showing products that are part of the return to natural materials and style. Patel explains: “We’re at the forefront of a new ‘natural’ trend, and launched new stone door finishes, such as Calacatta, at EuroCucina. One of the most popular new range combinations is proving to be a sleek white kitchen with a rough volcano worktop.

“Made of hard-wearing Silestone, our natural quartz surface offers unique anti-bacterial protection and won’t stain or mark. When combined with this beautiful wood finish it’s the ultimate in form and function.”

Colour and texture are also important. “Matte lacquer is dominating interior spaces. This soft option provides depth and a more defined platform. It looks especially impactful when combined with natural effects such as wood and stone. There is a huge influx of graphite greys and blacks. More clients are choosing sleek, minimal, dark kitchens, with a touch of walnut or oak to add warmth,” he continues.

But Patel also notes that style is combined with substance. “We have been incorporating sound and movement features into its kitchens for years,” he says. “Our electric climber wall units and roller shutters add theatre and hide everyday appliances such as kettles, toasters and coffee machines. They free up the worktop space and are a real talking point whenever clients see them.”

Patel also notes that the company is committed to regional innovations, a trend that’s becoming key in all areas of the world. “One technical innovation which is perfect for the UAE – and hugely popular – is that of taps that serve filtered, boiled, chilled or even sparkling water in kitchens. These are becoming an ‘essential’ for kitchen connoisseurs.”

As part of the return to natural style, the concept of wellness is key. “When it comes to clean living, the Miele steam combination oven is second to none – it offers such a versatile, healthy to way cook that ensures food retains its flavour. I couldn’t be without mine! The Miele Sous Vide is next on my list: it’s an amazing new ‘water bath’ product which originated in professional kitchens and is fast becoming the ‘must-have’ kitchen appliance,” explains Patel.
