What has Tom Ellis been upto all this while

-

Lucifer may be the actor’s highest-profile project to date, particularly in the US, but his previous credits include a long run on the British series Miranda (2009-2015) and appearances on Eastenders (2006) and Doctor Who (2007), as well as a starring role on the short-lived USA Network series Rush (2014). When he graduated in 2000 from the Royal Scottish Academy, Ellis recalled, he felt that, if he could make a living by acting, that would rate as a success story. He’d seen so many friends and colleagues aspire to be professional actors, only to do two or three theatre jobs a year and then “scramble around having to do bar work” for the rest of the time in order to make ends meet.

“I’ve never really had to do that,” Ellis said, “and I’ve always felt fortunate about that, but my big dream was for people to respond to the work I was doing. So I couldn’t have written a better script in many ways.

“I’m sure if you talked to the impatient, 20-year-old Tom years ago, it would have been ‘I want it all to happen right now,’” he admitted. “It was happening for some of my peers, and that’s what happens.

“The natural evolution of life isn’t always the same for everybody,” Ellis concluded, “and the fact that it’s happening now, and the way it’s happening, I’m grateful it’s happening now. The stars are aligning for whatever reason.”
