O ne of the biggest nail polish trends currently is the super metallic and foiled-finish ‘Chrome Nails’ that brings the bling to jazz up any outfit. The reflective metal nails were made famous by Gigi Hadid, when she was spotted with boyfriend Zayn Malik at the Met Gala last year, looking like a couple straight out of the sci-fi world of

Star Trek. These nails are now trending everywhere right from the runway, to the red carpet, and on Instagram influencers’ walls.

Also known as mirror nails, these are not as simple or as quick as a typical, metallic manicure. There are quite a few steps involved for chrome nails to look their best. The chic look is created in a number of stunning shiny colours and the effect is best described as liquid metal. Applying a highly pigmented glitter dust over a regular gel manicure creates the look. You can choose your favourite gel colour as your base coat and watch as the technicians give it a mirror effect. The process is completed with a gel topcoat that will hold the mirror dust in place for up to two to three weeks. Opting for gelish instead of regular polish lends brilliantly to this trend with its inimitable, long-lasting shine.

Silver and gold are great but one of the most popular finishes is rose gold, which makes you stand out from the crowd thanks to its unique hue. Rainbow, blue and green overlays are also quite in demand. In shades of bronze or gold you can match your favourite stacking rings and bangles for a dressy night out. The nails are perfect for those who don’t like to accessorise much and want to let their nails do all the talking! The shinier the better! -
