Underlining the growing role of the private sector in further building the region’s healthcare infrastructure, Aster DM Healthcare, a UAE-based healthcare network with strong presence in the GCC and India, continues its legacy of care in the region.

Aster DM Healthcare continues its commitment to the community as it delivers primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary care hospitals, speciality centres, medical clinics and pharmacies under the Aster and Medcare brands across the UAE, other GCC countries and India.

In 2015, the group opened 40 establishments including hospitals, clinics and pharmacies in the GCC. It also marked the opening of its first clinic in Bahrain and the Philippines. In Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Aster DM Healthcare acquired the 250-bed Sanad Hospital, raising its total ownership to 97 per cent. In Cochin, India, Aster Medcity has launched the first phase of a 670bed quaternary hospital boasting nine centres of excellence.

This year, Aster plans to open a number of neighbourhood clinics and pharmacies in the UAE. A highlight will be the inauguration of a dedicated 75-bed hospital for women and children as well as an IVF clinic under its Medcare brand to deliver quality treatment. The 100-bed Aster Hospital located in Mankhool, Bur Dubai, which was inaugurated in 2015, has shown strength in serv- ing the community.

Currently, six hospitals under both Aster and Medcare brands are on different stages of completion in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah and Doha. In India, the healthcare behemoth is set to inaugurate a 500-bed Aster CMI Hospital in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

Dr Azad Moopen, Founder Chairman and Managing Director of Aster DM Healthcare, said: “Aster is committed to continuously offer primary to quaternary care and reach territories where we can make a difference. As we build more establishments, recruit the best in medical talent and expand our reach, we look to surpass current benchmarks by providing quality, integrated and care-filled healthcare. It is always heartening to look back at our humble beginnings in Dubai and see where we are now in order to remind us that we are dedicated to delivering, and we only hope for a stronger future for our brand.”

With mandatory health insurance going into effect this year in the UAE and governments in the GCC encouraging public private partnerships (PPP), the healthcare industry is becoming more dynamic and private sector is becoming an important player in delivering quality medical services. Moreover, the UAE’s move to rate public hospitals will pave the way for healthcare providers to be more competitive and raise its standards further for the benefit of patients.

“It is a significant time for the region and for us in the healthcare industry. With the growth in population and higher incidence of lifestyle diseases, along with multiple other ailments, it is our responsibility to ensure that the healthcare needs of people are met. At Aster DM Healthcare, we believe in not just delivering medical services but also investing in research and innovation,” said Alisha Moopen, Group Executive Director and CEO — Hospitals and Clinics, GCC at Aster DM Healthcare.

“Aster is not just about building clinics or hospitals. Our role is to make a difference in people’s lives by treating them well. We invest and build a community where we are located. Our strong 13,000 multi-national medical professionals and around 1,500 doctors across our network are passionate in delivering quality healthcare to patients. Aster is proud to create more jobs and provide opportunities as it continues to expand,” concluded Moopen.

With 28 years of experience in the GCC healthcare space, Aster DM Healthcare positions itself to spearhead strategic and innovative healthcare schemes. Starting from a small polyclinic at Al Rafa in Bur Dubai, the group has established more than 290 healthcare units including hospitals, clinics and pharmacies till date.
