375 motorists fined in 3 months

- Ahmed Shaaban

ras al khaimah — The department of traffic and patrols of the Ras Al Khaimah Police has issued 375 tickets to errant drivers on the roads of the emirate in the first three months of the year.

The motorists were nabbed as part of the ‘Take the initiative’ campaign launched by Major-General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of the RAK Police, to better control roads and ensure traffic flow and road users’ safety.

Col Ali Saeed Al Alkeem, director of the RAK traffic and patrols department, on Tuesday said the four-month drive, which started in January, is to come to a close by the end of this month.

“Most of the traffic fines were issued in March which saw 189 violations, followed by February with 136 breaches, and only 50 in January.” The inspection campaigns will be intensified on all internal roads and highways of the emirate to curb traffic violations, he added. “Drivers with expired registration cards are urged to renew them as soon as possible.”

The public are urged to fully cooperate with the law enforcement bodies in the emirate to report any violation, he pointed out.

“As per a tougher unified traffic law with higher fines and a black points system enacted in 2008 all over the UAE, erring motorists are penalised with up to 24 black points, following which they lose their driving licence.”

Driving callously costs erring driver Dh2,000, 12 black points, as well as the impoundment of the vehicle for 30 days, he elaborated. “Not carrying a driving licence or using a horn in a disturbing way draws a fine of Dh100.”
