ajman — The crime rate in Ajman dropped by 2.5 per cent in 2015 as compared to 2014, the police have said.

According to security statistics released by the Ajman Police, the number of crimes recorded in 2015 was 7,561, as compared to 7,753 crimes in 2014.

The number of financial crimes topped the list last year, with 5,812 cases, a five per cent decrease as compared to 2014 when 6,136 cases were recorded.

Number of assault cases in 2015 reached 772.

Brigadier Shaikh Sultan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of the Ajman Police, said the drop in crime rates has been made possible through the police efforts in implementing the strategy of the Ministry of Interior (MoI), which aimed at curbing crimes that threaten the stability of the society. The deploy- ment of patrols in residential, industrial and commercial areas the entire day is also one of the factors that contributed to the decease of the crime in the emirate.

“The awareness among the public has played great role in minimising crime rates in the emirate,” he commented.

Brig. Al Nuaimi pointed out that despite the rapid population growth in the emirate, the crimes related to security issue were reduced to 63 crimes last year against 74 crimes in 2014. Crimes related to blasphemy were 16 in 2015 while three human trafficking crimes were recorded. He said the Ajman Police had made great efforts to curb crimes such as carrying out inspection campaigns in all areas, targeting illegal and suspicious activities.

He said the linking of banks, money exchanges and jewellery shops with early detection system in the operations room would help in reducing thefts and robberies.
