DUBAI — Al Ahli coach Cosmin Olaroiu has urged his men to stitch up the Arabian Gulf League this weekend and not leave it too late.

The Red Knights need just one point from their remaining two fixtures to wrap up a seventh League title. And Olaroiu’s men could get it done this weekend itself when they host Bani Yas at the Rashid Stadium on Friday night.

The Romanian emphasised the importance of that one point and asked his wards not to slacken in their quest for glory. “We have two more games at home and I hope that we get that necessary point from the first game,” Olaroiu said at the Meydan Hotel, the team’s training base, on Wednesday evening.

previous games,” he added.

But they go up against one of the tough teams in the League in Bani Yas and Olaroiu said they need to show the same focus and importance like they do for every game.

“Bani Yas are a strong team which some very good local players as well as foreign players. They have Amer (Abdulrahman), (Yousef) Jaber, Haboush (Saleh). So, it will not be easy. We have to keep the same level of concentration and get the job done. We also have the President’s Cup coming up. The most important thing for me at this moment is we shouldn’t decrease our performance level,” said the former Al Ain coach.

“Bani Yas are a strong and difficult team. We have to show the same focus and importance like we do for every game. We have to try to work in the same way and try to find the same motivation in the next period. It happens with teams where after winning the title, the level drops a bit. We have to be wary of that. My players understand we have another competition coming up. We will wrap this one and focus on the next,” added the 46-year-old.

Meanwhile, defender Abdulaziz Haikal was confident of getting it done on Friday night.

“It will be a tough game against Bani Yas but we are confident that we can get that important point to win the League,” said Haikal.

“We lost against Bani Yas earlier but we have put that behind. We have two more games in the League and hope to win it and then focus on the President’s Cup,” he added.
