abu dhabi — The Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) has spent more than 700 hours for awareness activities targeting school children, food handlers and management and staff of food and agriculture related businesses in the first half of the year.

The authority organised 129 awareness lectures, seven campaigns and 136 other activities apart from a number of field trips. Lectures and workshops handled a number of topics that help understand the idea of food safety such as, specifications for lunch box, safe shopping, food poisoning, food and additives, hand-washing, safety measures to be taken while handling food, food contamination, safe food storage, personal hygiene and bacterial proliferation.

The food control authority organised a number of programmes for schools in which the students were accompanied to food manufacturing facilities in order to have hands-on experience on how the food is being cooked, processed, stored and displayed in line with food safety regulations and specifications.

The awareness activities included campaigns targeting desertgoers, fish sellers, summer and Ramadan campaigns and a campaign organised to raise awareness among farmers and growers.
