Arab nations facing huge challenges: Ould Abdel Aziz

nouakchott — The 27th Arab League summit kicked off in Nouakchott, Mauritania, in the presence of His Highness Shaikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, who leads the UAE delegation.

After assuming its presidency from the Arab Republic of Egypt, President Mohammed Ould Abdel Aziz of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, confirmed that the Arab Nations are facing huge challenges, especially the Palestinia­n cause, which is the first Arab issue.

The Mauritania president said that the region would not be stable unless the Palestinia­n cause is solved.

Speaking about a number of issues facing the Arab nations, he said: “The crises facing the Arab countries need overall solutions.”

He said terrorism is one of the biggest challenges facing the Arab nation and also represents a global challenge and requires a collective strategy to be eradicated.

The Mauritania­n president said that political consensus keeps Yemen united, while lauding the role of Kuwait to host the Yemeni peace consultati­ons. He said in Syria, there is no alternativ­e for a political agreement, and stressed the need to support Libyan efforts to achieve consensus that would end the crisis.

The delegation accompanyi­ng Shaikh Hamad included Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy, Dr Anwar Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mohammed Saeed Al Dhanhani, Director of the Fujairah Amiri Diwan; Juma Mubarak Al Junaibi, the UAE Ambassador to Egypt, and Permanent Representa­tive to the Arab League; Saif Sultan Al Samahi, Adviser to the Ruler of Fujairah, and Isa Abdullah Masoud Al Kalbani, UAE Ambassador to Nouakchott. — Wam
