dubai — An ironsmith allegedly blackmailed his ex-wife’s new husband, and tried to force him to divorce her, by sending him inappropriate photos of the woman, the Court of First Instance heard on Tuesday.

The 42-year-old Pakistani is accused of web applications to blackmail the other man into divorcing his wife — who is the defendant’s ex — threatening that he would defame the couple by circulating the private photos, if he did not comply.

He denied the charges — of threatening, online blackmail, and breaching personal privacy — in court, after having admitted to them in the police investigation.

The case dates back to April 10. According to prosecution records, the defendant posted his ex-wife’s photos on several applications such as WhatsApp, Imo, Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus.

The defendant’s ex-wife, a 24-year-old Pakistani, told investigators that one month after her second marriage, her husband got two phone calls from her ex. “My ex told him that I am a bad woman and asked him to divorce me or he would face trouble. My husband responded that it was not my ex’s concern”.

Six months later, the accused called them again, but they left his call unanswered.

Shortly before 11pm on April 10, the accused sent her husband her private photos — which revealed intimate parts of her body — through Imo messenger, she claimed. “Two hours after he sent the photos, he called again, but I did not take his call,” her husband said in his statement to the police. He then reported his wife’s exhusband to Naif police station.

The accused’s mobile phones were seized by the police, who found the private photos of his exwife on the device.

The court is expected to pass a verdict on August 21.
