Rookie denies anthem vow

Philadelphia Eagles rookie Myke Tavarres pledged Monday to emulate Colin Kaepernick by refusing to stand for the US national anthem, only to backtrack on the issue hours later.

Tavarres, 23, said he planned to sit during the anthem when the Eagles hosted the New York Jets in Philadelphia on Thursday. “We’ve got an issue in this country in this day and age, and I feel like somebody needs to step up and we all need to step up,” Tavarres told ESPN.
