Coiffeurs fined for price hike, denying services

- Ahmed Shaaban

ras al khaimah — A number of gents’ hair stylists have been fined in Ras Al Khaimah for hiking prices without approval.

Some others were booked for offering services to some customers and denying others during the Eid Al Adha holidays, official sources said.

“Some coiffeurs refused to offer their services to some customers, claiming that they had a long list of reservations due to the pressing demand during the festival.” The Consumer Protection Department in Ras Al Khaimah received a number of complaints from the public on the issue, they added.

“The same complaints, mainly high prices and service denial, were reported by both Emirati nationals and residents here during the festival.”

The department instantly launched an inspection campaign against the reported barbershops. “Seven of these hairdressers proved to be involved in the reported violation, and these were ordered to pay different fines (unidentified) as per the breaches detected.”

The Ministry of Economy had earlier instructed all salons operating in the emirate to fix the price of their services in a clear and visible manner.

“This will help protect customers’ rights, and curb any such violations on the part of the beauty salons and hairdressers,” the source added. ahmedshaaban@khaleejtimes.com
