Online permit for waste transportation

- Afkar Abdulla

sharjah — The Sharjah Municipality has introduced a smart service that will ease the process of getting permission for waste transportation. The service can be availed of by filling an application on the municipality’s website.

Abdull Razaq Al Hamadi, director of the environment services department at the Municipality, said this is part of the process to transform all services to an electronic format. Going the digital route will minimise the effort and time for individuals seeking the service and also reduce the work for employees in various departments.

He explained that the municipality has spread awareness through its social media accounts on how to use its digital services in Arab and English.

With this addition, the number of digital environmental services would increase to 17, while smart services provided by the municipality would account for 60 per cent of the total mix.

He said the environment department aims to provide 95 per cent of its services electronically by 2017. These electronic services will be provided to industrial and commercial establishments which require permission to transport waste of all types. He said the department receives 18,000 paper requests for waste transportation permission each year. After launching the new service, it is expected to reduce to 6,000 requests.
