abu dhabi — Sarfraz Ahmed probably wouldn’t have in his wildest of dreams, imagined that his bunch of boys will so easily ace the T20 world champions, the West Indies.

Four matches into his captaincy, he has the envious record of having won all four. Sarfraz has slipped into the role with ease and is enjoying captaining a new and young team.

Obviously, he is pleased with the 3-0 clean sweep after winning the third T20 in Abu Dhabi, but more importantly, he felt that this is an

important step in building a new team to challenge the world’s best.

“We never imagined that we would win the series 3-0. They are the world champions and they are a strong team, conditions wise. So, I would like to praise my team for the way they worked hard. Despite the humidity and other factors, the way the boys didn’t lose confidence. If you look on the field, we were better than them. We fielded well, bowled well and took some good catches.

“It definitely is (an important step in building a good team). When we were 2-0 coming to Abu Dhabi, our focus was that if are to become a good team, we will have to bring in the consistency. It is a new team and the way the new boys have responded, it is very good for them. We had Babar Azam, Hasan Ali, Rumman Raees played, Imad as well. Even when you look at the senior players, the way Shoaib (Malik) bhai has responded, I think this is a good sign for the Pakistan team. There is a good combination that is working between the junior and senior players and I hope that in the immediate future too, this team will go on and perform well,” he added.

About captaincy, he said: “It is not difficult at all, in fact, I’m enjoying it. They way Shoaib bhai has responded, Wahab (Riaz) and (Sohail) Tanvir, who has made a comeback, and the way he is bowling, it is a good sign. So, I’m enjoying captaining a team involving junior and senior players.”
