Youth gets 3 months jail for refusing to pay rent for luxury car

- Ahmed Shaaban

ras al khaimah — The Ras Al Khaimah Misdemeanour Court, Second Circuit, has ordered a young Arab man to serve three months in jail for failing to pay the rent for a luxury car here.

As per court records, the accused rented a luxury SUV car from a car rental agency in Ras Al Khaimah city for two months.

He was supposed to pay Dh60,000 against the vehicle, but he just parked it in front of the rent-a-car office, and disappeared. The manager of the agency lodged a complaint against the defendant with the Ras Al Khaimah police last month.

“The suspect was supposed to have paid Dh60,000 against the two-month rent of the luxury car, but he left the car in front of the agency late at night with the keys in, and disappeared,” he told the RAK police.

According to the police, the accused refused to pick up the phone. “We tried to contact him in several ways, but he was unreachable,” the police said. The RAK police later summoned the suspect who admitted to his felony, claiming that he did not have the money to pay the rent. “I rented the luxury car for two months only for fun and for showing off.”

The accused was then referred to the Public Prosecution for legal action. He was then moved to the RAK Misdemeanour Court which found him guilty. He has been sentenced him to three months in prison.

The mother of the suspect hoped that the prison term will discipline him. “Never imagine I will pay for your snobbish and boyish practices,” she told him while he was in the dock.
